New Band of the Week – 17/06/13 – Colleen Green

It’s funny/scary how the universe/internet works – earlier, someone tweeted about Colleen Green – at the time of reading the tweet, I misconstrued Colleen Green to be some sort of US mar-i-ju-an-a  festival and thought little of it (her Twitter handle is @ColleenGreen420). Clearly, the seeds had been planted in my consciousness. An hour or so later, Colleen Green later popped up on Spotify Radio and I instantly thought: ‘it is meant to be’. That said - the internet may have just manipulated me.

Either way, there you have it – Colleen Green = NBOTW. So let me tell you more...(the internet has helped me with this also):

Equipped with a guitar and a drum machine, CG is a scrappy and dynamic LA based DIY grunger.  Her tunes are tinged with hues of sunkissed Californian goodness, coupled with elements evocative of 1960s girl groups – think: The Crystals; Shangri-las, Ronettes etc. Lyrically, she talks about boyfriends; break ups; mean girls and school friends. Her music purveys the kind of giddy naivety, which is juxtaposed with the harsh reality that comes with being a teenage girl.

Have a listen:
