Thursday Top 3 @ 3:33 - An ode to France

This week I have had a friend from Lyon stay with me. While having friends from abroad stay with you carries its usual lilt of experiences and local landmark revivals, I selfishly use this time to catch up on music from other countries that wouldn't normally cross my path, or translation. This week's top 3 is an ode to France, in all it's distinct, chic and nutty glory.

M (Mathieu Cheddid) - Mojo
A withstanding figure on the French pop scene, M (Mathieu Cheddid) latest album in 2013 may have been poo-pooed by 90's loyalists, but this song has a fun bounce that has been translated perfectly into this kitch, shamelessly Parisian video clip. Go on, have a bedroom dance to it later - we did, it was great!

Mesparrow - Locked In My Thoughts

Mesparrow is my favourite pick of the crop - the smoky honestly in her voice regales you in all the ageless female jazz songstresses, and echoes cinematic French contemporary through the gorgeous use of light in this video clip.

Java  - Ce S'Ra Tout (La Boulangère)

The list would not be complete without some French hip hop. Java turns a wonderfully regular French bakery scene into a bakery-analogy littered argument with the girl at the counter.
"Aahh, but this is so fucking French yeah. It's cool."
