Copenhagen-based band The
Unusual History of Ether is the exquisite musical synergy of Irish
singer-songwriter Rebecca Collins and Danish guitarist Mikkel Ploug (featuring Jeppe Skovbakke on bass and Jeppe
Gram on drums). It would be
a lie to say that this band is our "new" band of the week, because their debut
EP ‘Part One’ was actually the soundtrack to my October 2011 – it was only when
the new release swanned into my inbox 2 weeks ago that I realised I’d been
keeping them all to myself for far too long!
The Unusual History of Ether - Part One EP
The evocative, melancholic
beauty of Rebecca Collins voice and lyrics, paired with panoramic instrumental
blues compositions, creates a juxtaposition of vulnerable and enabling throughout the EP; it
is feminine, smoky and charming. ‘Innate’ and ‘When Autumn Fell’ will certainly
take you there.
As lovers of illustration here at SNH, a special mention must be made of the cover art and design work on UHOE’s Part One EP and promotions, for the sharp and mystic pen weaponry of Luise Schricker matches splendidly with the prose of the band.

'Crazy Elk’, the first single off UHOE’s upcoming album, swings this band into the next chapter with a vivacious new level of melodic intricacy behind the ever-enchanting storytelling of Collins (Plus, there is something slightly reminiscent of Veruca Salt in this track which warms the cockle of me’eart to no end).
All in all a stunningly fresh band that instantly take you down the garden path, and then deep into their musical wilderness.
