You've caught me in the act again - listening to more garage psych pop. It's shameless how happy this genre makes me, and I've found some more quality floating in from the South. OPOSSOM is the current project of headed by producer Kody Neilson, who previously captained buzzy New Zealand punk-pop band "The Mint Chicks' and produced folk darling Bic Runga's 4th studio album 'Belle'.
Their debut album title 'Electric Hawaii' says it all really - liquid vocals and layered instrumentals swimming around the click and pace of some fun bass lines.
Songs like 'Fly' and 'Elixir Cola' are a throwback to Surf Rock and earlier 1990's acid-infused trip pop, but the track that really hits the spot for me is 'Getaway Tonight'; more of a punchy highway daydreamer than going to that place where the forest meets the sea. OPOSSOM will surely add some more great soundscapes and drive to my absolutely brimming psych pop library.
'Electric Hawaii' will be released through Fire Records on 7th August 2012.
