Label Profile - Hujan Records

It's a funny old thing the internet. I was browsing some old video archives, typing in things like 'hats' and 'parachutes' and 'lipstick' to see if anything interesting came up. Weirdly I just ended up watching terribly low budget monster movies and Victorians looking, well, what can only be described as incredibly awkward in a video entitled 'Kissing'. I guess they're Victorians, how else would they look?

You may think I have too much time on my hands - you'd be wrong - but we won't go into that. So, I get bored of the monsters and kissing. I type in 'riot', watch something about bread strikes - still boring. Then I type in 'riot grrl' and the weirdest thing happens. The first link if for a mix tape, made by Indonesian record label Hujan Records! I have no idea what I'm listening to. But I actually like it. It's raw, lo-fi, grainy DIY - all Casio keyboards, and distorted guitars. Some of it's twee, some shoe gaze, some new wave - not particularly riot grrl, but who cares - it's good just the same and the labels mission statement is exactly the type of thing we like to support:

Hujan!Rekords is a netlabel based in Bogor and founded in early 2009 to accommodate the talents who have financial constraints to release his work in physical form, and provide alternative solutions through the net releases for free via digital audio format under the Creative Commons License . Hujan!Rekords run by some people who can be counted on the fingers with the concept of finding and distributing the bands potential and have a quality of work. In conducting this label we do not target the benefits in terms of material for this label is basically made up our love of music and we aim to introduce the work of bands that have the potential to not restrict the public. We don’t bordering the genre of music we were going to release, because we are more concerned about the quality of the music itself outside of genre or the name of a band.
