The Suicide Of Western Culture are a secretive Catalan threesome who have happened upon a truckload of discarded Casiotones in a forgotten Barcalona warehouse and with the aid of several hundred effects pedals and a sense of whimsy have set about putting them to good use in a synthetic orchestra.
This resembles the heady and honey-thick fuzzed up synth-drone pop of Fuck Buttons at its core but TSOWC do something especially sweet with the sound, blending a good topping of M83 in there along the way.
For anyone who has ever got a kick from the rich unadulterated sound of 80’s toy keyboards being smashed through torn bass speakers with squeaky toy mallets... you will fall in love with this.
Honestly, I’m not even going to waffle too much about this band. I missed them at Primavera this year, and having discovered the simple beauties of their self-titled LP since, I honestly regret it. It is simple, minimal, warm fuzzy loveliness.
And Jean Michel Jarre, take please note; you’ve never needed those laser triggered synth rigs the size of a small Yorkshire hamlet to make soulful electronic music - a knackered old Yamaha PSR 70 and a Big Muff will do just fine, thank-you! - DF
