The Rayographs | Chapter24 | Bastard Sword - 30 June - The Wilmington Arms

We are proud and majorly excited to announce our next show, featuring the awesome Rayographs, the bodacious Chapter24 and the riotous Bastard Sword. Can we get a hell yeah!

The Rayographs have been together since 2003 and following their much adored 7” “Francis” in 2009 have continued to garner critical acclaim from blogs and music papers alike for their music. The release of their self-titled LP on Desire Records in April further cements their reputation as a band with a unique and atmospheric sound. Astrud Steehouder, Jessamine Tierney, and Amy Hurst channel a musical vision that is redolent with punk poetry and bluesy lamentation. Patti Smith, The Pixies, and PJ Harvey are frequent reference points for reviewers but there are nuances in The Rayographs’ sound that are truly original. The NME’s review of their LP raved about the way the band “pay homage to days gone by” whilst bringing something new to the mix. The band’s willingness to let their garage stylings flirt with brooding psychedelic edges and create new sonic textures is inspiring. The Rayographs have been hotly tipped as a band to watch, and they are delivering on that promise.

London-based quartet Claire, Mel, Mark and Joe formed Chapter24 in 2007 and their frenetic and exciting live performances have been earning them much love ever since. Chapter24 were named as one to watch in the NME magazine’s Radar feature in 2009 and the recent release of their excellent self-titled EP makes good on this promise. The band are fresh from playing some rollicking shows at SXSW in March and a triumphant recent date with Times New Viking.

They are poised to deliver another show of punk ‘n’ roll swagger replete with jagged spikes of guitars and schizophrenic time signatures that hint at The Slits with a warming dash of tropical rock. There’s nothing restrained or suppressed though and there are great songs and ideas aplenty in Chapter24’s cupboard, both to admire and freak out to, and with lead vocalist Claire renowned for her eccentric and magnetic live performances you will find it hard to resist joining in.

We admit it - we love them; and it is no accident that they are attracting interest from a growing list of admirers and fans, in the UK and further afield.

The three busy gentlemen of Bastard Sword have been making a name for themselves in London pushing a mazy and pleasingly bewildering blend of post-rock and blissed out electronic madness that delivers by the bucket load. It is as viscerally exciting and unpredictable as it is melodic and soulful. Stabbing bass lines and synths and a nice turn in stream of consciousness lyricisms are the order of the day.
