Savaging Spires + Shinamo Moki + The Wharves + Mooncreatures - 08/01/14 - Old Blue Last - Free

Happy New Year jabronis! We're so, so, so excited for 2014 - we've got some excellent shows lined up - the first of which being this one! Here's some more info about the bands - if you like what you hear, and are free next Wednesday - come down, say 'hi!!', buy a t-shirt, drink some beer, have a great time.

Savaging Spires are an improvisational pop band who record live to tape, and quite often to just cassette. Gathering around a single microphone, their songs are often elongated passages, fragments of potential songs that despite their fragile, bordering-on-the-edge-of-collapse approach, seem to create a force of sound that’s impossible to not be overwhelmed by.

Savaging Spires might not always be an easy listen, especially for a band built around simplicity of melody, and complexity of texture but are one of the most rewarding of sonic experiences.’ – Critical Heights

‘Shinamo Moki are electronic duo Auryn Tate Waring & Felix Treadwell.Originating from the south coast of England & combining their passion of 90’s Anime, Japanese contemporary art, nature & Eastern architecture with sparse synths & splintering, textural percussions to form a core to their sound’ – LastFM

The Wharves are ‘a three-piece whose beef comes from thick bass twangs offset against dramatic vocals fit for a grander setting than your iPod and spooky echoes…appropriate [for] Halloween’ SEXBEAT

'Moncreatures play epic and atmospheric reverb pop that gets lost somewhere between Low, Cocteau Twins and the more delicate moments of Explosions in the Sky. Hushed vocals are hidden beneath the icy guitar melodies and gentle drums patterns' - Brixton Buzz

SNH Advent #11 - Savaging Spires

Hardcore SNHerders may remember this lot, as we made them our New Band of the Week about a year ago, and still remain one of our favourite finds in recent years. We were lucky enough to catch up with them for our 11th Xmas Interview. Enjoy!
Yep, we're too lazy to find a new pic
What were your highlights of 2012?

Discovering that Blank Realm are even better than I thought they were, falling in love with Scott & Charlenes Wedding and a new wave of Australian music in general. As a band we played a bunch of shows at SXSW and did a US college radio session (which we have always wanted to do) but the most enjoyable was the show we played for Was Ist Das up in Hebdon Bridge – one of the first people to care about what we did.   We also closed the year by releasing a one-take, live tape recording of our debut album. It sold out in seconds.

What can we expect from you in 2013?

We will finally release our much-delayed 2nd album  “Horizon”.   We released one track of this in the summer but we decided to hold off on the album release so we could experiment with more cassette recordings. I think the format suits our more exploratory sound so we are going to start a series of cassette releases to compliment the official releases.

Go on, give us a Christmas track that you like please?

Why this track?
Because its Christmas…and you’ll regret it.
Can our readers have a link to one of your tracks please?

SNH Podcast Jan/Feb '12

I trust you'll be pleased to learn we have belatedly whipped out another podcast, full of post-rum musings and musics. No Alwin this time - fear not - we found a more eloquent (and arguably better looking) replacement in the form of a delightful jar of Polish pickles. Check it it aaaawwwwt!

New Band of the Week – 07/11/2011 - Savaging Spires

Disappearing as soon as they've arrived, like a flighty troupe of minstrels, Savaging Spires' nomadic songs are communal pastoral soundscapes, replete with acoustic guitars, tin whistle, violin and a shambling chorus. Don't expect them to last long (the songs, not the band) but enjoy it while they do.

They've caught the attention of The Wire and Stuart Maconie's Freak Zone to name but two and the excellent debut album is nearly sold out.

Have a listen:
