Silkies release 'It Hurts to be Sixteen'

Every so often, we get contacted by a band that live in another country, that we really dig. When this happens, we kinda get bummed out, because we know that if we put them on here, in the UK, it would be a big party and everyone would dance. That said, sometimes, we kinda make it happen anyway...

Austin bred, Boston based Silkies are one such band. They've just released a twee version of Andrea Carroll's 1963 "It Hurts to be Sixteen" which is killer fun and had us dancing around when we first heard it. Of the track, the band say:

"Carroll was marketed as a would-be girl group teen idol -- her awesome slogan was "why is she so shy?" -- but she got kind of overlooked by the industry for whatever reason.  Her song speaks to us!"

The band lists Emily's Sassy Lime, Bratmobile, L7, Shangri-Las, The Crystals and Las Mosquitas as influences. So if these are sounds you're into, give Silkies a try.
