We’re
thrilled to announce that, in anticipation of their stint at the Great Escape, Barcelona’s
experimental glitch-synth purveyors, The
Suicide of Western Culture, will be performing for us, on May 10 at the Old Blue Last – and it’s completely bloody free! Support comes from
fearsome punk-poppers The Callas and mellow lo-fi crooner Fantasy Rainbow. We’ll also have some rad DJs on board to spin some
awesome tracks.
Mysterious and accomplished Spanish duo The Suicide of Western Culture have
performed alongside artists such as
Animal Collective, Cut Copy, Orbital, and Darkstar.
Clearly
inspired by the likes of Mogwai and God Speed you Black Emperor, their sound is
jam packed with distortion, analogy beats and glitchy, mechanical intermissions.
This show is exceptional in that they very rarely darken on our
shores, catch them while you can.
The Callas are flippin’
awesome! They provide a dark, buzzing soundscape jam packed with vivacious pop
punk hooks. These guys are played all
over Europe; gracing the stages at Indietracks and The Great Escape, as well as
performing live in churches, flats, boats, mountains,
toilets and with bands such as Grinderman, Au Revoir Simone, You Say party! We
Say Die!, The Wedding Present, Television Personalities and The Victorian English Gentlemen’s Club. They
recently released their LP Objekt in UK (distribution by Cargo) as well as
undertaking a UK tour.
The
chilled out lo-fi act Fantasy Rainbow provides a chilled out backdrop of hooky
riffs, dreamy vox and a layered summer vibes full of warmth and happiness.
Comparible to M Ward and Aztec Camera, this really is a pick-me-up deserving of
a listen.
